What Religion Is Zac Efron?
Considering how famous Zac Efron is, the lack of controversy surrounding him is quite surprising. Despite having had a couple of moments that can only be described as mischievous, Zac Efron is one of the few big-name actors that can be considered a role model for the young. As such, many people wonder to what extent religion influences his behavior.
Zac Efron has described himself as both Jewish and Agnostic. However, he was raised in an Agnostic household. As such, it is unclear how religion impacts the life and the actions of Zac. Zac very rarely references his religion but did so in a hilarious way on the Comedy Central show ‘Workaholics’.
Let’s take a look at when and where Zac’s religion has played a part in his life.
Zac Was Raised in an Agnostic Jewish Household
Zac was raised by his parents in California. He is of Jewish ancestry. That said, his parents were never particularly religious, and Zac is quite similar in that regard. He has never claimed to be religious and considers himself an Agnostic himself.
For the uninitiated, Agnostic refers to people who believe that the existence of an all-powerful deity cannot be comprehended by the human mind. As such, they approach religion with skepticism. You can find out more about agnosticism here.
Zac was a fairly good student, as he claims that he always preferred to get As over Bs, and this shows in his 4.3 GPA. His parents influenced his life in a hugely positive way, and it was his father that got him into acting in the first place.
Zac being an actor has led to an insanely funny skit where he does talk about his religion.
Zac’s Religion is Mentioned in Comedy Central’s Workaholics
In 2014, Zac took part in the infamous Workaholics skit along with Seth Rogan. The hilarious skit shows Zac and Seth competing for the last available space in the cubicle.
The skit starts off with Zac being the obvious choice considering his success with the ladies, his good looks, and his instant connection with the 3 interviewers. However, Seth mentions how they should pick him since he is Jewish, and their group needs diversity. This is where Zac drops the bombshell that he is Jewish as well.
We will not spoil the ending for you, but let’s just say that the way they make Zac prove the fact that he is Jewish is definitely unconventional.
Zac and Seth are obviously an incredibly dynamic duo, and they starred in the film Neighbors during the same year. The film was fairly well-received, and it spawned a sequel a couple of years later.
Zac is a Fighter
Whether or not religion has any impact on this is unclear, but Zac’s moral character and strength is certainly unreproachable.
Caving under the pressure of child stardom, Zac started substance and alcohol abuse from a fairly young age. Finally, he decided to check into a rehab clinic in 2013.
After completing a short stint, Zac came back a renewed man. Substance abuse is quite common in Hollywood, and so are post-recovery relapses. However, Zac seems to have been sober ever since, a testament to his iron will.
As if that wasn’t enough, Zac also underwent treatment for a deathly illness towards the end of 2019. While filming ‘Killing Zac Efron’ in Papa New Guinea (we know its ironic), Zac contracted something quite similar to ‘Typhoid or some other bacterial infection’. He was rushed to a hospital in the United States for treatment. Staying true to his form, he recovered within a few days and then completed the three weeks of filming in Papa New Guinea.
