Vanderpump Rules Star Billie Lee Defends Playing The Trans Card With Katie Maloney; Apol
Fans of ‘Vanderpump Rules’ are split when it comes to who’s in the wrong over a dispute between Katie Maloney and Billie Lee. The LGBTQ activist took to her blog to defend herself.
Katie, along with the other women that are main cast members, threw a Girls Night In event to take the place of James Kennedy’s weekly See You Next Tuesday after the DJ was fired for being disrespectful at his place of employment.
Billie Lee was one of the only women on his side with the exception of Raquel Leviss, but that didn’t stop Katie from telling Ariana Madix and Scheana Marie that it would be okay if they invited newcomer Billie Lee.
Apparently, there was an oversight where Ariana and Scheana forgot to extend the invitation leaving Billie to feel left out.
That’s when Lee confronted the women, mainly Maloney, about not inviting her to Girls Night In on the basis that she’s trans. After arguing with the women Lee spoke to Lisa Vanderpump and explained to LVP what she was feeling. During her explanation, Billie stated that if Katie gets to ‘pull her fat card’ then she gets to ‘pull her trans card.’
The episode left off with a cliffhanger and viewers on opposing sides.
On one hand, Katie did not purposely exclude Billie from the night and if she did it would be okay considering that Billie has sided with James, on the other, some felt that the women should have heard that Lee was coming from a place of hurt.
The 34-year-old opened up about the experience on her blog. In one excerpt, she writes: “The sadness started to pour out of my body as tears began spattering my phone. I was hysterical. I started texting and calling my coworkers, asking why SUR would have a night for girls and not include me. This wasn’t someone’s birthday party. This was a work event at my place of work. On the nights I’m scheduled. AND it’s called “Girls’ Night”! No one got back to me, and pretty soon the sadness turned into rage. I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I went to Twitter to see if I was tagged there, and sure enough I wasn’t. With my feelings rushing from my fingertips, I tweeted, “When yo coworkers don’t include the only trans girl in GIRLS night at your own job! On the night you work! #rudeAF #TransIsBeautiful”
The post continued with: “What was shocking to me is how fast and furiously Katie, Kristen, and Sassi jumped in to defend their loyalty to the LGBTQ community but never once asked how I felt. Never once reached out to me. Never once thought about how this will effect trans kids watching. Lisa my hero May be the fairy godmother to the gay community, but just because our boss is pro-equality does not mean everyone at SUR is. Trans women in America see and hear things that offend us every day. Not everyone at SUR walks around with rainbows and butterflies.”
