Justin Vernon is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is the primary songwriter and frontman of indie folk band Bon Iver. He has also been a member of indie rock band Volcano Choir, indie folk band Big Red Machine, the Shouting Matches, Midwest indie band Gayngs, and DeYarmond Edison.

Justin is the son of Justine and Gilbert Vernon. All of Justin’s maternal great-grandparents were born in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin, of Norwegian descent. It is not publicly known what Justin’s father’s ancestry is, but his surname is often English.

Justin’s maternal grandfather was Gordon Howard Sather (the son of Gilbert T. Sather and Hansena Gunderson). Gordon was born in Wisconsin. Gilbert was the son of Gullik Halvorsen Sather and Thea G. Hansena was the daughter of Herbjorn Østensen Gunderson and Olina Wik.

Justin’s maternal grandmother was Lucille Elizabeth Edison (the daughter of Edd/Ed Edison and Lizzie Holten). Lucille was born in Wisconsin. Edd was the son of C. K. Edison and Marget.
